Meet Our Patient Care Team

Licensed Veterinary Technicians & Veterinary Assistants

Haley Austin, LVT   -   Haley joined the team at Blue Ridge Animal Clinic in June 2018 shortly after graduating from Blue Ridge Community College where she earned her AAS in Veterinary Technology.  Haley can be found working with both large and small animals at the clinic, but she has developed a particular interest in surgery and anesthesia.  
Haley is from Buchanan, Virginia. She lives on a farm with both sheep and beef cattle and also has several dogs and cats at home.

Nell Smith, LVT   -   Nell graduated from Blue Ridge Community College in 1981 with her AAS in Veterinary Technology.  She worked at various practices in the Shenandoah Valley prior to bringing her experience in the field to Blue Ridge Animal Clinic in 2006.  Nell enjoys the being a part of the interaction between owners and their beloved pets.  Nell lives in Lexington and has two children, Kaitlin and Zev.

Jordan Taylor, LVT

Jordan joined Blue Ridge Animal Clinic in 2014 beginning her career as a veterinary assistant.  She continued working at the clinic during her education to be come a licensed veterinary technician.  She graduated from Blue Ridge Community College with her AAS in Veterinary Technology in 2016.  Jordan has a special interest in both surgery and anesthesia. ​

Jordan is from Bath County, Virginia. She enjoys spending time with her husband and their son Briar, as well as riding her horses in her time away from the clinic. 

Mikayla Woodzell, Veterinary Assistant

Mikayla joined Blue Ridge Animal Clinic as a Veterinary Assistant in 2015.  She enjoys equine medicine.  She also finds assisting animals in their recovery from injuries and illnesses to be particularly rewarding. ​Mikayla also spends part of her time at BRAC assisting on large animal calls and ET work with our large animal veterinarians.

Mikayla is from Bath County, Virginia and currently resides there with her 4 horses, 3 dogs, and 1 cat. 

Randie Groah, LVT

Randie started her career in the veterinary field in high school working as an assistant and kennel attendant at practices in the Shenandoah Valley.  She graduated from Blue Ridge Community College in 2017 with her AAS in Veterinary Technology.  ​Randie joined Blue Ridge Animal Clinic in 2017.  She has special interests in dental cleanings, radiology, ultrasound, and performing lab work. ​Randie is from Raphine, Virginia.  She continues her love of animal care at home with many pets including dogs, cats, goats, rabbits, fish, a pony, and a turtle. ​

 Jade Conner, Veterinary Assistant

Jade has been on the team at Blue Ridge Animal Clinic since 2016.  She is  is currently pursuing her AAS in Veterinary Technology.  Helping sick and injured animals is the most fulfilling part of Jade’s work in the veterinary field. ​

Jade is from Lexington, Virginia.  Her biggest pride in life is being a mother to her two sons. In her spare time, she loves being outdoors and spending time with her family and pets.

Sarah Mayhew, Veterinary Assistant

Sarah joined Blue Ridge Animal Clinic in January of 2019 as a Kennel Assistant. Sarah has proven to be a versatile asset to BRAC, and can be found working in Client Reception, as a Vet Assistant and also still helps to care for the animals who are boarding or hospitalized here at the clinic. 

Kaitlyn Pixton, Veterinary Assistant

Kaitlyn became part of the BRAC family in June of 2022 and is originally from Wytheville, VA.  She graduated from William and Mary and has plans to attend vet school in the future.  Kaitlyn's favorite part of the job is helping animals feel their best and learning new things about them every day.  In her free time, Kaitlyn enjoys spending time with her husband, running, horseback riding, and doing other outdoor activities. 

H.D. Smith, ET Technician
H.D. is a graduate of Purdue University with a B.S. in Animal Sciences and concentration in Agribusiness.  H.D. joined BRAC in June of 2022 as our ET Technician.  Originally from Indiana, H.D. relocated to Virginia (with her three ferrets) in June of 2022 to join BRAC.  She will focus on ET work with cattle, sheep and goats and assist with other large animal calls.
